Recreating the unique spirit of 1940’s radio plays and brilliantly evoking a dinner-jacketed age of casual imperialism and stiff upper lips. The Fitzrovia Radio Hour’s brand new show tours fresh from three critically acclaimed London residencies, and two sell-out years at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Performed with cut-glass theatricality blending homage and satire, Fitzrovia mixes the chauvinist attitudes of 1940s Britain with sharp contemporary humour to produce a heady comic cocktail. Throughout the plays, sound effects are created live: a Bakelite hairdryer imitates a heating torch, a desk fan becomes an aeroplane, and multiple types of cabbage help to stage a fight scene. Rippingly good fun!
Why not get dressed up in vintage style for our spiffing after-party, with live 1940s music from the fabulous ZAZOU COWBOYS, themed drinks and other decadent delights! The party starts right after the Fitzrovia show and entry is free - see you there!
Absolutely spiffing show that recreates the innocent, clipped, Bulldog Drummond spirit of Forties live radio drama, with a skilled company stepping up their retro mics to unfold ripping yarns. A Joy.”

Cast and Creative
Jon Edgley Bond
Bristol Old Vic trained actor, producer and keen swordsman with a passion for Dirty Martinis. The last time he gave a urine sample, there was an olive in it.
Alix Dunmore
Trained at Bristol Old Vic and has a variety of theatre, television and short film credits to her name. She aspires to be a Hepburn, either would do.
Tom Mallaburn
Studied music at university, but has worked as an actor, writer and director since then. Joining The Fitzrovia team in 2008, vocally he specialises in strain and trauma.
Alex 'Ratty' Ratcliffe
Trained at LAMDA. Worked in film, theatre and TV and then grew a particularly verdant moustache and found his true calling as The Fitzrovia Radio Hour's house bounder.
Phil Mulryne
Studied at Cambridge. Trained at the bristol Old Vic. Has theatre, television and radio credits. The Radio Hour is his only credible excuse for a well-groomed pencil moustache.
Martin Pengelly
Writer and editor, mostly for The Guardian. Studied various kinds of history at various universities. Would like to be like Cary Grant, but would settle for Ralph Bellamy.
