Born and raised in Australia, he has always loved acting and writing comedy and has performed in some of the most widely respected venues all over the UK and internationally. When not performing, Nick is a keen pianist and loves to travel.

Al is one of the founding members of Le Navet Bete and still performs with the company in their various shows, particular favourite roles have been Long John Silver in Treasure Island and The Ghost of Christmas Past in A Christmas Carol.

In his spare time Al is a keen pizzaiolo (pizza chef) cooking away in his wood fire oven.

Matt has been with Le Navet Bete since the beginning.

Matt has always had a passion for comedy and is hugely proud of the extensive back catalogue of work that Le Navet Bete have written and produced over the years, a particular career high was the publication and international licensing of Dracula: The Bloody Truth. He has always loved to dress up in women’s clothing and the roles he takes on within Le Navet Bete work clearly displays this.

When he is not making the masses fall apart with laughter he is growing organic vegetables on his allotment.

Writer(s):

  • Daniel Buckroyd co-wrote and directed Robin Hood at Exeter Northcott Theatre last year. Daniel has written and directed many pantomimes over the years, including at Colchester Mercury and Exeter Northcott. He is currently Artistic Director at Litchfield Garrick Theatre.
  • Le Navet Bete is a physical-comedy theatre company based in Exeter, Devon, whose spectacular and hilarious shows have wowed audiences globally since their formation in 2007. The company of three (Al Dunn, Matt Freeman and Nick Bunt) first met each other whilst studying at the University of Plymouth in 2003. With Exeter as their base, they have been Associate Artists at Exeter Northcott Theatre and are currently Artists in Residence at the Exeter Phoenix. Their productions of Dracula: The Bloody TruthTreasure Island and The Three Musketeers: A Comedy Adventure have all been published and licensed worldwide by Nick Hern Books, with sell-out runs in the USA, Canada and New Zealand. Their production of A Christmas Carol was first performed since at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth 2013 and was revived at Exeter Northcott Theatre in 2021. In 2022, the company collaborated with the Northcott to create the record-breaking smash hit Robin Hood.

Morag Massey – Producer (for Exeter Northcott)

Previously executive director at Bristol’s Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory, Morag has worked as marketing manager for Circomedia, a researcher for BBC Radio 4 and most recently as an Interim artistic director/producer for Tobacco Factory Theatres, producer for BOVTS and executive producer for OperaUpClose. She is currently working freelance.

Alex Jackson – Director

Alex is a director and writer originally from Exeter based in London.

Alex created the podcast Making a Musical: The Future of British Musical Theatre with The Other Palace and co-founded Exeter Fringe Festival where he was Festival Director between 2019 and 2022. He was a Trainee Resident Director at the King’s Head Theatre where he was made a Junior Associate after graduating.

As well as directing, this year Alex has written Aladdin (Cheltenham Playhouse), and Jack and the Beanstalk (The Blakehay Theatre) and licensed scripts for numerous amateur productions across the UK and worldwide. Alex is a Trustee for the UK Pantomime Association who produce The Pantomime Awards.

Kim Healey – Choreographer

Kim is a South West girl, born & bred. She works as choreographer, actor & youth facilitator all across the UK, and is very proud to be working with the team on Dick Whittington this year. Previously she was the Director of the Barn Academy and in charge of Educational Outreach for The Barn Theatre, Cirencester. She is dedicated workshop leader and facilitator, teaching dance, drama and music to participants of all ages, and abilities.

Izzie Winter – Musical Director

Since graduating from London College of Music last year, Izzie has enjoyed working as a writer, composer and performer.

Theatre credits include: Jasmine in What’s Wrong With Me (Camden Fringe), Paul in Four Miles (The Pen Theatre), Newsrevue (Canal Cafe Theatre), Becks in Say it with Sequins (Workshop- Jerwood Space) and Kat in Run to the Nuns (Brighton Fringe- Caravanserai).

Alongside this, Izzie has written, composed MY SISTER IS MISSING.– a one-person musical which they also perform. The production has been featured in seasons at The Pen Theatre, The Drayton Arms and was workshopped at The Other Palace in November. The musical was most recently featured as part of Tania Azevedo’s MT Pride Lab at Kings Head Theatre. Izzie released their debut EP ‘for when i sleep’ in 2022, for which they wrote and directed a music video under the same title, and can be found on all streaming platforms.

Marcus Bartlett – Lighting Designer

Exeter-based Lighting designer Marcus has designed lighting on last year’s hugely successful panto, Robin Hood, and Exeter Northcott’s The Honey Man and Antigone. With Le Navet Bete, on The Three Musketeers,Dracula: The Bloody Truth, A Christmas Carol and Aladdin. He’s also worked extensively with Triatre Theatre in Barcelona, Exeter Phoenix and with Theatre Alibi since 2002 on: Why the Whales Came, One in a Million,The Crowstarver, Caught, Spies, Cobbo, The Ministry of Fear, Gouchers War, Curiosity Shop, The boy who climbed into the moon and Falling. Also, with Forkbeard Fantasy on: Fall of the House of UsherettesRough Magyck (with the RSC) and The Colour of Nonsense.

In some of the summer months Marcus can be found as Lighting designer at Beautiful Days theatre tent, Gone Wild festival, Sidmouth folk festival and Jurrassic fields.

His lighting with live music includes: Afro Celt Sound SystemWard Thomas and Ralph McTell. Also extensively with Show Of Hands playing venues from The Royal Albert Hall to Under the Hull of the Cutty Sark to The Minack Theatre Cornwall.

The rest of Marcus’ time is spent as Technical Manager of Exeter Northcott where this year he’s headed a project to upgrade the sound and lighting within both of the Barnfield and Northcott theatres, he hopes you enjoy!

Nikki Crowley – Sound Designer

Nikki Crowley is a skilled sound designer and composer making noise in audio production – both figuratively and literally. With an impressive background working for renowned organisations such as the BBC, Bristol Old Vic, and Tobacco Factory Theatres, Nikki specialises in sound for theatre, film, TV, and radio. Drawing on over 15 years of experience, she brings a diverse skill set as a live and studio sound engineer, touring musician, and music producer.

Nikki excels in narrative storytelling, her sound design practice being broadly focused on source materials and the creative manipulation of their sonic qualities to create a richly textured soundscape. Primarily working from a palette of original field and studio recordings and electronic designed sounds.

A trusted expert in audio technology, she is the go-to professional for creating complex audio solutions. Embracing the motto ‘Let’s make some noise,’ Nikki is dedicated to ensuring that all productions receive the attention they deserve.

Rachael Duthie – Production Manager

Rachael is a Somerset based Production Manager and Lighting Designer. She trained at University of Wales, Aberystwyth and is currently working with Theatre Alibi and Travelling Light, as well as working as a sustainability consultant for small Arts organisations in the South West. Other companies she regularly works with include The Egg in Bath, Tobacco Factory Theatres, The Wardrobe Ensemble, Quirk Theatre, ZOO Venues as well as previously for the Bristol Old Vic, 2Faced Dance, The Belgrade, Pilot Theatre and The Courtyard in Hereford.

Katie Haywood – Costume Supervisor

Katie completed her theatrical costume training at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and has since worked in costume and wardrobe departments all over the country including theatre productions, carnival companies, with circus performers and at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

Katie also runs her own company making bespoke bridal wear and unique costumes from her studio in Honiton.

She is thrilled to be joining the creative team for Dick Whittington.

Wonder Pantomimes are pleased to be bringing the pantomime paved with gold, Dick Whittington, to the Barnfield Theatre, this festive season.

Join Dick Whittington and his faithful feline friend Tommy on their quest to seek fame and fortune in the city of London, where the streets are paved with gold and the evil Ratty dwells.

However, Dick dreams of being the Lord Mayor of London and he is going to need all the help he can get from the beautiful Alice, the gang and of course lots of children to defeat that evil old Rat!!


Wonder Pantomimes is a touring pantomime company based in the West Country.

Pantomime comes home to the Northcott with a spectacular new staging of Dick Whittington, starring Exeter’s most popular Dame – Steve Bennett and directed by one of the country’s leading pantomime directors, Tony Lidington.

With his faithful Puss by his side Dick leaves his Exeter home for the bright lights of London in search of fame and fortune. Follow his adventures as he reaches the big city and travels the high seas. Will Dick find his fortune? Can he and Puss defeat the evil villain King Rat and return home triumphant?

Expect plenty of audience participation, live music, magic, mayhem and lots of laughter – the perfect recipe for a family Christmas panto treat!
