Exeter Northcott Theatre is advertising for a permanent Artistic and Executive Director.

In January 2015 the charity’s Board of Trustees set a strategic plan for financial recovery, restructure and revision with a brief to provide local jobs and a wide breadth of live performance to Exeter and the South West.

At that time, the principle stakeholders – Arts Council England (ACE), the University of Exeter and Exeter City Council – agreed to the temporary part-time engagement of a director on the understanding that formal recruitment would take place after three years.

Lucy, Lady Studholme, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said the theatre has now returned to a financial surplus, increased audiences numbers and turn-over, widened the range and quality of touring shows and reinstated its tradition of producing its own work, including the Christmas pantomime. This has been achieved thanks to the hard work and commitment of all the staff and volunteers under the strategic revitalisation by the current part-time Artistic and Executive Director Paul Jepson and part-time Finance Director Catherine Goodridge.

In July last year, Arts Council announced that it is continuing to fund the theatre as one of its National Portfolio Organisations (2018 – 2022), and the recruitment process for a permanent full-time Artistic and Executive Director post is now required.

With the support of the key stakeholders the Northcott has now returned to its proud position as Exeter’s vibrant city theatre and the recruitment of a permanent senior director further confirms this success.

A further full-time senior post – Finance and Operations Director – will be recruited later in the summer.

As the Northcott celebrates its 50th Anniversary year, this is an exciting and important opportunity and will give the theatre the ability to grow and deliver the ambition to be a leading theatre in the South West, with a national reputation and making a significant contribution to entertainment, the cultural industries and live performance.
