Behind the Curtain

Behind the Curtain is the culmination of the Exeter College Performance Academy programme.

Exeter College’s Performance Academy comprises of a collection of the College’s talented students who are studying related courses. The Northcott has worked in association with the Academy for many years, and was delighted, this year, to deliver the course which provides learners with stretching workshops and guest speakers to help enrich students’ experience and give them a real insight into the industry.

Originally planned as a piece for the stage, Covid restrictions challenged us to find new and innovative ways of working digitally, and led to us to an exciting collaboration with experienced film and theatre maker Luke Jeffery of Wandering Tiger.

Behind the Curtain explores the theme of windows and screens revealing private lives of the pandemic. Students began writing the content earlier in the four month programme, but had to design, film and direct their pieces over three days with digital support from Luke Jeffery and Lisa Hudson, the Northcott’s Children and Young People’s Producer.

What I enjoyed most was the sheer amount of knowledge that was passed on to us over the few days; I learned an immense amount which I otherwise would not have been able to… working over Teams…  forced us to be even more creative.
