Artist Commissions

A call-out to artists with an exciting new digital commissioning opportunity

Earlier this year, we invited South West artists to come up with creative digital responses to the challenges of lockdown, focusing on the most vulnerable in our communities, parents trying to home-school children, socially-isolated people, and key workers.

We called that initiative THE TIME IS NOW and the resulting works, including podcasts, a community choir, a digital conversation about hanging around, an online game, and a circus film about mental health that has gone on to win awards, can now all be seen here.

We hoped that the impact of lockdown would have lessened by now, but it’s clear that this disruption to the creative and cultural life of the country is going to continue for some time, and that there’s now a pressing need to reflect on what the last six months have taught us about ourselves, our society, and the changes that are needed when we finally emerge from this crisis.

We’re therefore launching a new initiative called THE TIME (FOR CHANGE) IS NOW, with three further £1,000 commissions for artists to create original digital works reflecting on this.

We’re particularly keen to hear from you if you’ve experienced barriers to getting involved in creative projects in the past, or you feel like your voice and ideas haven’t been heard within Devon as loudly as they should; this is your chance to help us change that.

Send us your pitch, which could be written (a side of A4), a video/audio file (up to 5 mins) or a combination of both – tell us about your idea; your target audience; who else will be involved; when it’ll happen; and how you’re going to ensure it’s inclusive.

Applications for this opportunity have now closed.
